Friday: Weather alert day! Strong winds and storms

Rain chances will increase from west to east throughout the day as significant severe storms position to move into the area late Friday afternoon and evening.

A significant severe weather event is likely late Friday afternoon into Friday night. Confidence has increased for severe storms and a Moderate Risk is in place for a good portion of the area. With higher confidence in severe storms, the primary threats will be from tornadoes, some of which could be strong, along with damaging winds and large hail. The timing on the map indicates the likely window severe storms will occur in.

Strong winds are expected Friday into Friday night as the pressure gradient tightens ahead of a developing strong weather system. Sustained winds between 20-25 mph with gusts over 40 mph are expected.
