The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reported that three missing children from the Doss Drive area in the Coontail community were found safe yesterday after going missing.
The search, which began around 2 p.m. on Thursday, involved MCSO, Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks, 911 Emergency Management, MS Game and Fish, Monroe County Search and Rescue, local volunteer firefighters, and the Amory Fire Department.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office asked Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Officer Starling and K9 Charlie to come in and help with the search for the children.
Officer Starling and K9 Charlie got to the last known location of the children at 4:15 p.m.
MDWFP said that within 15 minutes of Officer Starling presenting K9 Charlie with an article of clothing from one of the kids, he found them.
“MDWFP is proud of the efforts this team puts into assisting communities in situations like these, and we are thankful to report the children were found and brought home safely!”
The children were transported to North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC) for medical evaluation.
MDWFP said their K-9 Unit is comprised of four K9s that cover the entire state of Mississippi. The K-9 Unit specializes in wildlife detection and search and rescue operations.
