Morgan Howard

Several youth inmates who worked hard to earn high school equivalency certificates at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility at the Youthful Offender Unit are celebrating their graduations.

Prison administrators and staff recently congratulated them on their achievements while other youthful inmates witnessed the celebration.
Deputy Superintendent Derrick Chambers gave the keynote address emphasizing that the inmates can move on from their past and be anyone they want to be as productive citizens in society.
Deputy Warden Cedric Smith also spoke to the graduates. He told them that their past mistakes do not define who they are and that they can learn and grow from this point in their lives.
Two inmates were named co-valedictorians while earning the highest score honors in math, science, social studies, and language arts.
One of the valedictorians was also honored for having good conduct with no rule violation reports.
Two other inmates also graduated with their high school equivalency certificates but could not attend the commencement.
