Walthall County man pleads guilty in Feb. 2021 murder

On Tuesday after a Walthall County Circuit Court jury was selected, DaJohn Morgan, 19, of McComb entered a plea of guilty to Second Degree Murder, Drive By Shooting and Conspiracy for the February 18, 2021 murder of DenJavis “DJ” Warren, 18, of Tylertown.

The shooting took place on Highway 27 South of Tylertown just South of Mage’s Creek. Tobrisha Conerly of Tylertown and DeMarcus Smith of McComb had previously entered pleas of guilty to the same charges for their participation in the drive by shooting.

Judge David H. Strong, Jr. sentenced Morgan to a total of 50 years with 13 years suspended for post release supervision a fine and restitution.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Warren family as they mourn the loss of their loved one from such a tragic event. May DJ’s memory in some way be used to prevent senseless acts of violence like this in the future,” said Assistant District Attorney
Brendon Adams.

Sheriff Kyle Breland said, “This case sends a strong message that violent crimes will not be tolerated in our community and that those responsible will be held accountable for their actions. We will continue to work with our area law enforcement agencies and District Attorney’s office to prosecute violent crimes.

Assistant District Attorneys Brendon Adams and Timothy Jones prosecuted the case defended by Wayne Dowdy.
