On Wednesday, Dan White pled guilty to Capital Murder and Unlawful Taking of a Motor Vehicle in the Circuit Court of Lincoln County.

Judge David Strong sentenced White to Life in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections for the murder of Mrs. Dianne McMorris, and an additional 5 years for the theft of her automobile. White must serve the entire sentence, without the possibility of early release or parole.

The case was Prosecuted by District Attorney Brendon Adams, who expressed his appreciation to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for all of their time and hard work put forth in building a solid case against this violent defendant.

“These types of cases can be very time consuming and complex to investigate and Sheriff Rushing’s officers did an outstanding job,” Adams said.

The charges against White resulted from a home invasion in Lincoln County, during which White killed McMorris after breaking into her home.

In discussing the case, Adams stated, “Burglarizing someone’s home is an incredibly serious crime in and of itself, however, when it is coupled with an assault on the homeowner, which in this case resulted in the death of an innocent lady, it must be prosecuted with the full weight of my office. People must be able to feel safe in their homes. Once that safety has been violated it is hard to ever feel safe again. My office will continue to hold those who break into homes and commit other senseless acts of violence accountable for their actions.”

Adams also asked that citizens remember the loss suffered by the McMorris family.

“My heart goes out to the family of Mrs. McMorris. I know there is no real closure in these types of cases, however, I hope the victim’s loved ones can take
some comfort in knowing that Mr. White has been held accountable for his actions and justice has been served,” he said.
