According to sources, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into shots that were fired at or near U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith’s home in Lincoln County earlier today.

The shots were fired as her family was getting home from church, authorities confirmed. At least one family member attempted to get a vehicle description. It’s not clear if one has been released at this point or not.

Hyde-Smith lives in the northern part of the county in a rural area with several fields of cattle surrounding her home. There are other homes in the neighborhood beyond the livestock fields.

MBI released a statement October 23 saying,

“The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), along with federal and local law enforcement agencies, are investigating a shooting that occurred around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, October 22nd near the home of Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith in Lincoln County. No injuries have been reported. Anyone with information, please contact MBI at MBITIPS@dps.ms.gov. Due to this being an open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be made by MBI at this time.”
