(Editor’s note: Therese Apel is mortally afraid of alligators, so this story is written with a good degree of fear and trembling. Also, don’t read it if you don’t have a sense of humor. 😂)
Pearl police officers responded to a call Wednesday night of an alligator in the roadway.
This is how we know police officers are so much braver than a lot of us: They actually showed up to deal with the river monster and get him to where he would be safe.
Some of us (looking in the mirror) might have gotten the call and said, “Good luck, alligator! Hope you make it home!” from the safety of a nice storm shelter 10 miles away. 😉 But we didn’t get the call, and really, we’re not mad about it.

Seriously though, a video taken by Pearl police shows the reptile slowly moving away from the blue lights and the gathered people. Officers were able to get him to the other side of the road, and then the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks was called to take him somewhere safe.
We cannot confirm that the alligator wasn’t just trying to get home for dinner before his wife started calling and took the highway.
See you later, Alligator! (So cheesy, but you know we had to do it.)
