Missing Pontotoc man found dead in Marshall County

A Pontotoc man’s body was found in an area of Marshall County, not far from where he left his truck last week.

According to Marshall County Chief Deputy Kelly McMillin, Brian Dowdy had wrecked his truck on Wilkins Chapel Road last Thursday when he accidentally drove off the road and got stuck. He called a wrecker and spoke to deputies at that time and said that he had a ride coming and not to worry about him.

But it appears that if Dowdy had a ride, it apparently never came.

McMillin said law enforcement turned to technology to see if they could locate the man in case he had wandered into the woods. On Wednesday, they searched the area with drones, dogs, and by helicopter and were unsuccessful.

Then they took a cadaver dog to the 3000 block of Wilkins Chapel Road, and it only took the dog about a half hour to locate Dowdy.

McMillin said he didn’t observe any signs of foul play, but that Dowdy has been sent for autopsy.
