Sheriff Jim Johnson updates the media on a case involving an improvised explosive device.

Deputies responding to a vulnerable adult situation found an explosive device in a vehicle Tuesday.

According to Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson, deputies were sent to the Texaco gas station on Barnes Crossing Road as part of an investigation into the alleged vulnerable adult abuse of 81-year-old Dianne Cotton. Johnson said Cotton and her son, Michael Foster, were both living out of a vehicle.

Foster, 58, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, but that’s when deputies found an improvised explosive device in the vehicle, not far from where Cotton was seated.

A bomb squad helped to resolve the situatoin. Cotton was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.

Foster was charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine as well as misdemeanor warrants. Johnson said other charges could be pending.
