According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, a body was found floating at Belle Fontaine Beach on Friday.

Sheriff John Ledbetter said around 12:30 p.m., a boater spotted the body about three quarters of a mile offshore. The unidentified man was recovered by deputies and the Department of Marine Resources.

At this point, Ledbetter said the cause of death is unknown and the case is being treated as a homicide.
