Five Forrest County inmates are now headed for promising careers in food services.

Five Forrest County inmates have laid the groundwork to become America’s Next Top Chef, if they want to be!

On Thursday, the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department said in a release that the inmates had graduated with a certification that will help them find work in the food industry.

“Guys, I’m proud,” said Major David Ward. “I want to be buying from y’all’s food truck. I want to be buying from y’all’s restaurant.”

Ward also expressed pride and congratulated the five men for successfully completing the 6-week course and passing the 90+ question exam.

The program, called “IN2WORK,” allows the inmates a chance to earn a Managers ServSafe Certificate from the National Restaurant Association, which in turn, gives them a head start to gainful employment in the food industry post release.

Food Service Director Geraldine Cooper said these graduates are now able to find work in restaurants or even start their own.

The Forrest County Sheriff’s office says they are proud to offer opportunities such as ServSafe to give people a chance at a better life after release.
