UPDATE: ARRESTS MADE. Canton Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Including Six-Year-Old Boy

Update, Tuesday, Aug 31: Two arrests have been made after the deadly drive-by shooting in Canton. In addition, two teenagers are wanted for questioning.

Tomar Smith, 24, is now in custody. He is charged with being an accessory to murder.

A triple shooting in Canton has left two innocent bystanders dead, including a six-year-old boy.

Chief Otha Brown said Tracy Wilder, 42, was changing someone’s oil at a gas station near Franklin and Canal streets around 7 p.m. Thursday when two men started shooting. Brown said Wilder was hit with a stray bullet and killed.

A 19-year-old male, Octavion Carter, was also shot in the wrist. Police believe Carter was the intended victim.

Half a block away, a woman was getting gas at Marathon when a stray bullet struck her six-year-old child.
The child, Jeison Romero Lopez, was taken to UMMC in Jackson where he passed away.

Police said the two men got away in a white Dodge Charger. Tomar Rashad Smith is suspected of driving the vehicle. Anyone with information as to Smith’s whereabouts or about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
