Teenagers Killed In Overnight Shooting In Brandon Identified

Two people are dead in a shooting early Tuesday morning, according to Brandon Police Chief Joseph French.

A release from Brandon Police Department says that around 1:50 a.m. several phone calls came in reporting gunshots in the area of Mary Myles DriveĀ and Mary Crain Circle.

When officers arrived to the scene they found two deceased individuals who both appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.

The individuals were identified as 18-year-old Montrell Briggs from Florence and 18-year-old JaMarques Patterson from Pearl.

Chief French said the investigationĀ quickly gained momentum and a juvenile suspect was arrested for the murders of Briggs and Patterson. Additional charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault are pending. This remains an open active investigation.

Chief French stated that several agencies provided personnel and technical assistance.

“I would like to thank the Rankin County District Attorneyā€™s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Crime Scene Unit for their assistance with this investigation.”

The Brandon Police Department does not release identifying information on juvenile defendants.
