Authorities are investigating a shooting that took place in Lincoln County on Sunday night.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, around 10 p.m., deputies assisted the Mississippi Highway Patrol with a call of a vehicle being shot up on Highway 84 near Elbert Lane. The release stated that they and Brookhaven Police Department helped secure the scene on the state highway.

Friends and family of the people in the vehicle that was shot said it was a woman and some small children. There were injuries, but details on how many and their conditions have not been released.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has confirmed the probe but won’t comment beyond those details. MBI is currently the primary agency handling the incident and we’re told they will release further information as it becomes available.
