LAFAYETTE COUNTY — Lafayette County Emergency Management officials reported a storm-related fatality following an accident involving a generator on a resident’s property.
According to a news release, Lafayette County Fire Department paramedics responded at about 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, to a call involving an individual who fell while refilling a generator and struck their head.
Paramedics provided life-saving efforts at the scene, and the patient was transported by air ambulance to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee, for further treatment.
The individual later died from their injuries and was pronounced dead Thursday morning, Jan. 29, at the Memphis hospital, according to officials. The person’s name was being withheld out of respect for the family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” said Steve Quarles, director of Lafayette County Emergency Management. Quarles urged residents to use caution as storm impacts continue, noting that icy surfaces, low visibility and fatigue can make routine tasks dangerous.
Emergency management officials reminded residents to take extra precautions while cleaning up and operating equipment during winter weather conditions.
