OXFORD – Law enforcement agencies in Lafayette County are partnering with Communicare to offer free Narcan training following the deaths of two students this week.

The Oxford Police Department, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and University Police Department will host the training Oct. 1 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the OPD Training Room, 9 Industrial Park Drive.
Narcan will be provided to all attendees, and no registration is required.
In a joint statement, the agencies said the deaths have deeply affected the Lafayette-Oxford-University community and that the training is intended to give residents access to a potentially lifesaving tool.
Authorities also emphasized that the training does not change their approach to illegal narcotics enforcement.
Law enforcement officials said they will continue efforts to investigate and hold people accountable for the possession or distribution of illegal drugs while also providing overdose-prevention resources to the community.
