A two-year-old child is dead as a result of blunt force trauma in Pike County.

Pike County Sheriff James Brumfield said his mother and her boyfriend are both facing charges in connection with his death.

Pike County Coroner Wally Jones said Brantley Scott died Monday. He was hospitalized at the time. Brumfield said police believe that the incident that led to his death happened earlier that morning on February 21.

Brantley’s death was ruled a homicide. Demetrius Ashley, 22, is charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of the child, and he will have an appearance in Justice Court.

Kiara Scott, 22, Brantley’s mother, is charged with two counts of felony child abuse, and is also in jail awaiting a hearing.

Ashley and Kiara Scott live together on Highway 98 east.
