The Mississippi Bureau of investigation is looking into fatal shooting involving Rankin County deputies on Saturday.

According to a release from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Garrett Road in Florence for what they thought was a medical call. While they were en route, a caller from the scene indicated that the call was actually a domestic disturbance.

When deputies arrived on scene they learned that the suspect, Shannon Trevor McKinley, 28, had a felony warrant for domestic violence.

According to authorities, McKinley hid in the attic of the home and wouldn’t come out for some time. Finally, he tried to escape and rub. As he tried to escape, he fired at the deputies who then returned fire, striking the suspect.

McKinley was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations was called to the scene and is currently investigating the incident.
