The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Gulfport Police Department that occurred on May 4th.
Officers with the Gulfport Police Department were responding to a call near Reed Avenue in Gulfport, Mississippi regarding a stabbing.
Upon arrival, an altercation occurred between an officer and the subject on scene. During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital.
The officer received no serious physical injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.
