Lincoln County homeowner shoots intruder after break-in/assault spree.

An intruder was fatally shot by a homeowner early Tuesday morning in Lincoln County, according to Sheriff Steve Rushing.

A release from the Sheriff’s Office says around 3:50 am a disturbance call came in at a
residence on Katrina Lane. The suspect had threatened people at that residence but left before deputies got there. While on scene at Katrina Lane, dispatch received a call of a subject breaking into a home on Topisaw Drive and assaulting two men men before leaving in a vehicle.

Deputies got to Topisaw Drive to find not only were people assaulted at that home, but also a neighbor had been assaulted at a second home on Topisaw Drive.

As deputies were gathering suspect information at the Topisaw Drive addresses another 911 call was received from a resident on Reeves Road of a man attempting to break into their home.

As deputies arrived on scene on Reeves Road, they heard gun shots from another nearby residence. At a second house on Reeves Road, it was determined that the suspect tried to strike the homeowner with his vehicle, and the homeowner discharged his firearm
striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to King Daughters Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

During the course of the investigation, it has been determined that the same suspect was involved at all the locations listed. No home owners were injured on Reeves Road, two
victims from the Topisaw Drive locations were being treated for various injuries at KDMC.

The investigation is still underway as to any possible motive. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.

The homeowner from Reeves Road has not been charged, and per procedure the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for presentation to a grand jury.
