A Rankin County Interdiction Deputy found over three pounds of fentanyl pills in a vehicle on Monday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., the deputy pulled over a Chevrolet Tahoe on Interstate 20 for a traffic violation. Finding probable cause to suspect illegal activity, the deputy asked for and received consent to search the vehicle.

During the search, deputies located plastic bags hidden inside a seat. The plastic bags contained over three pounds of pills. A field test of the pills showed a positive result for Fentanyl.

The driver of the vehicle, Carlos Martinez, was placed under arrest for trafficking of controlled substances. The estimated street value of the Fentanyl is approximately $250,000.

Martinez was transported to the Rankin County Adult Detention Center and booked on the trafficking charge. District Attorney Bubba Bramlett will bring him before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for an initial appearance.
