Two suspects in custody, one hit by police vehicle, after chase in Southaven

After two days of running from police, two men are in custody in Southaven.

According to a release, on Monday, patrol officers saw a Red Nissan Maxima with two men in it driving on US Hwy 51 and Custer. It was the same vehicle, they said, which had refused to stop for officers for two days prior.

Officers followed the vehicle into the BP Gas station at Hwy 51 and Custer and waited for assistance to arrive before attempting to stop the Maxima.

The suspects wouldn’t stop, so stop sticks were deployed, flattening two of the tires. The Maxima continued north on Hwy 51. When the suspects ran the red light at Rasco Road, it caused an accident, disabling the suspects’ vehicle.

Both of the suspects were armed with handguns and ran from the car in different directions.

Officers caught one suspect in the roadway, but the second suspect was struck by an unmarked detective unit after police observed him with a handgun in his hand. Police say he was running towards Domino’s Pizza and other businesses.

It turns out the suspects were 17 and 18. Police have not yet released names, charges or conditions in the incident.

This is a developing story.
