UPDATE: Two shot at Meridian Police Department

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has issued the following statement:

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Meridian Police Department that occurred on February 1st, 2024.

An officer from the Meridian Police Department was escorting a subject to a court hearing when
the subject secured a weapon and shot the officer. A second Meridian police officer discharged his firearm striking the subject. The officer and subject received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. This information is preliminary and subject to change.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.

Meridian’s Scotty Ray Report is currently live on the scene of a shooting at the Meridian Police Department.

 

Sheriff Ward Calhoun said his department was called to the scene where two people were shot. It was an officer-involved shooting, he said, but the situation is now stable. Both shooting victims, one of which is a police officer, have been taken to a hospital.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has been called to do a routine investigation on the shooting.
