Southaven police officer shot, suspect on the run

A Southaven police officer was shot today and police are currently in a standoff with the shooter after a chase ensued into Arkansas.

Local law enforcement said the officer was shot in the arm and he was alert and responsive at the scene. Authorities say the injury is not life threatening.

Southaven Police Chief Macon Moore says the officer is a member of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and further information will come from the FBI.
Officials say the shooting took place at Mallory and Riverport in Memphis. The suspect fled in a police car and began a standoff with police.

The St. Francis County sheriff told WMC the officer’s vehicle was found wrecked near the woods
