Shooting at Northpark Mall In Ridgeland, possible self-defense

Therese Apel

According to Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers, Northpark Mall is secure after a shooting at a store near Dillards.

Myers said a woman pulled a gun on a business owner who was also armed and ended up allegedly shooting the woman.

“This appears to be a self defense shooting,” Myers said in a text to Darkhorse Press.

The woman who pulled the gun on the business owner is in custody at the hospital with an injury to her leg.

The investigation is still underway. Northpark Mall’s protocol for a shooting was followed, Myers said. The tenants followed the mall’s plan to shelter in the businesses until the scene was secure.

The business owner’s actions will be presented to a Grand Jury.

This is a developing story.
