Five members of a Rankin County family escaped safely from a home that caught fire in Rankin County Thursday night, but officials say one of the residents was responsible for the fire.
Theron Ellison Morris Jr, 21, was arrested and will be charged with arson and assault on a firefighter, Rankin County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Paul Holley.
The first units on the scene were from Langford fire department, and Holley said when they got to the fire it was fully involved. The suspect allegedly attacked a firefighter when they arrived.
Holley said the call went out around 8:30pm to 100 Dominion Parkway, just off Highway 471.
An adult man is being treated for minor burns, as is the suspect.
The house is a total loss.
Holley said Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Rankin County EOC; Langford, Lake Harbor, and Evergreen volunteer fire departments; and Brandon and Reservoir fire departments were on the scene.
