Tuesday morning shortly after 7 a.m., a report was filed with the Pontotoc Police Department regarding a truck being stolen overnight from the parking lot of a local business.

Pontotoc Police officers were later dispatched to the Circle K gas station located at 125 Highway 15 North. The owner of the stolen truck reported that the truck had been discovered at the gas pump and an unidentified man was with the truck. While officers were en route to the location, they were advised by the owner of the truck that the man was in possession of a firearm that had been inside of the stolen truck, and that he had fled on foot.

Apparently during a confrontation between the suspect and and the truck owner, however, the gun was not used or displayed.

Because of the proximity of the location of the incident to the Pontotoc Ridge Vo-Tech Center law enforcement contacted school officials and made them aware of the situation.

Officers began canvassing the area to locate the suspect and are still looking for him.

“Contrary to several posts to social media there have been no robberies or gun play at any location in the city of Pontotoc,” Pontotoc police said on their Facebook page. “At no time did law enforcement feel that there was a direct threat to any school or business.”

Attached is an image of the suspect captured from the parking lot of Circle K on Highway 15 South. If anyone has information of the identity of location of the suspect, please contact the Pontotoc Police Department at (662)489-7804, or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 1-800-773-TIPS.
