The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 11:20 am about a house fire at 301 Barker Road, Morton, MS (Rankin County).

The caller stated a camper was on fire and a male victim on the scene appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation.

Fire personnel from Pelahatchie, Leesburg and Walters Fire Departments responded to the scene along with Rankin County Deputies, Rankin EOC and Pafford Ambulance.

First Responders located an unresponsive male when they arrived on scene. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the male victim died on the scene.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth responded to the scene and took custody of the victim’s body.

Coroner David Ruth will share the identity of the victim once the family is notified.

Rankin County Fire Investigators along with members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office to the scene to investigate and attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
