Man arrested after Byram jogger brutally assaulted

Officers responding to a physical assault call on Wednesday found a Byram resident who had been brutally assaulted while jogging.

A release from Byram police states that it was almost 2 p.m. when they encountered a female victim walking towards the intersection of Byram Drive and Terry Road, and she was disoriented.

The victim was later determined to be a Byram resident who was brutally assaulted as she went on her normal routine jog. Signs of sexual assault were also discovered as detectives processed the scene.

Citizens in the area immediately began aiding the investigation by calling the Byram Police Department and providing valuable suspect description. Surveillance footage of the suspect was also collected.

After police canvassed the area of the incident, the suspect was shortly apprehended. He was identified as 22 year old Coby Byrant Taylor of Byram. Taylor is currently being held at the Hinds County Detention Center without bond, until his initial appearance.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital to be treated for injuries.
