Byram Man Robbed At Gunpoint During Facebook Marketplace Transaction

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Officers of the Byram Police Department responded to the Chevron gas station (7382 Siwell Road), regarding a robbery.

When officers arrived, the victim told them that he been communicating with the suspect through Facebook marketplace.

The suspect created a Facebook marketplace ad trying to sell an iPhone 6 for $200.

The victim agreed to meet the suspect at one of the apartment complexes within the city limits, where the suspect later robbed the victim at gunpoint and took his money.

Through the course of the investigation detectives developed a suspect: 18-year-old Torian Josiah Catchings (AKA:T.J.).

Catchings was arrested by the Byram Police Department after a felony bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Catchings is currently being held at the Hinds County Detention Center, on the charges of Armed Robbery.

Catchings will go before the Honorable Judge Damon Stevenson within the week for his initial appearance.

Byram Police Chief David Errington said,

“We want to inform any member of the Byram community when conducting a sale or transaction with private individuals to utilize the Byram Police Department parking lot during daytime hours for the safety of all parties involved”
