If you’re from Rankin County (and actually, a lot of places outside of Rankin County), you’ve heard about the Langford Fire Department Boston Butts.
At first meant to simply be a fundraiser, the Langford-style butts have now become a tradition in the department and almost a ritual for some who pre-order at least one every year.
In 2022, Langford firefighters produced more than 550 Boston Butts for the community during the holiday season. This year, there will only be 500 produced, so pre-ordering is an integral part of the process for anyone who wants one.
You can pre-order by visiting or by calling 601-825-0038. Also watch for pop-up booths at local businesses on Saturday mornings during the months of October and November.
The proceeds go to help Langford VFD with essentials such as fuel for the vehicles and apparatus, updated gear, and station bills such as electricity and water. Langford does not currently receive tax dollars, so the Boston Butt sale is the department’s primary fundraiser each year.
Make sure you order by November 25! Butts are $45 each, and there are sandwich plates available for $10 as well. Pickup is December 8 from noon – 6 p.m., and December 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
