Marion County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in Columbia on July 9 minutes before 10 p.m. at 1415 Gates Road.

WAPT reporter Christiana Kay wrote that officials claimed that a male was shot at the residence. He was then transported to Marion General Hospital after trying to receive medical assistance on-site.

The male later passed away from his injuries. Columbia police have identified the man as Tommy Daquan Burton, 24, of Columbia.

Police have identified the potential suspect to be Jeremy Devonta Cagins, 28.

The 28-year-old turned himself into the Marion County Sheriff’s Office the day after.

He was charged with second-degree murder. Columbia police believe there could be more suspects at large.
