Around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night, Capitol Police officers say they observed a 2007 white Toyota Tundra allegedly driving recklessly at a high rate of speed without a tag on West Street.

According to reports, officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by 37-year-old Maurice Taylor.

Taylor then fled, leading officers on a pursuit throughout various streets in Jackson. The vehicle eventually left the roadway and struck an embankment surrounding a culvert.

Taylor was transported from the scene in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

At the scene, police discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Jackson. Officers also recovered two stolen firearms and multiple stolen catalytic converters from inside the vehicle.

The accident scene is being investigated by Jackson Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
