A Vancleave man is jailed on grand larceny charges after allegedly selling stolen utility trailers on Facebook Marketplace.
Sheriff Mike Ezell says two trailers were stolen within the last two weeks from construction sites in the St. Martin community. The first one was recovered the next day after investigators determined it was sold on Facebook.
The second trailer was found in Livingston, Louisiana on Monday, November 22. It too was sold online and recovered within hours of being reported missing. With help from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department, investigators returned the trailer to the owner in St. Martin.
Sheriff Ezell says D’iberville Police helped investigators arrest 31-year old Nieko Bing in D’Iberville Monday night. He is charged with two counts of grand larceny and is in the Adult Detention Center without bond, pending an initial court hearing.
If you are selling or buying property on Facebook, you should have a written bill of sale and/or a picture of the buyer/seller’s state issued ID card. Also, get a description of the buyer/seller’s vehicle, including a tag number. Investigators suggest meeting in a safe, public place, preferably during the day. Make sure someone you trust knows who you’re meeting and the time and location.
More arrests are possible in this case. If you have any information, please call the sheriff’s department at 228-769-3063 or contact Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
