Two children are reportedly under the protection of Child Protective Services after their mother locked them inside a U-Haul while she ate at the Laurel Waffle House with a friend.

According to the SunHerald, police were called around 6 p.m. last Wednesday to a Waffle House where a witness reportedly saw two children locked in a vehicle. The children were around 12 and 16 years old, police said.

Police have not identified the woman because that would identify her children. She and the friend she was eating with have both been arrested on felony child abuse charges and were given a $10,000 bond.

WJTV is reporting that the mother bonded out on Monday, and that her friend is still in custody.

We have reached out to Laurel Police Chief Tommy Cox for more information and will update as updates are available.
