Several injured in Laurel house fire

Several people were injured while trying to escape a house fire in Laurel.

Calhoun, Pleasant Ridge, Soso, and Hebron volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire at 3631 Indian Springs Road in Laurel on Sunday morning at about 4:00 am.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single-family brick home fully engulfed in flames.

The flames from the home had spread throughout the front yard and along the side of the home.
One resident stated while he was sleeping his heater went off, awakening him As he got out of bed, he smelled smoke. When he went out of his bedroom and investigated, flames filled the living room area, blocking access to the door. He was able to escape from a back bedroom window and then assisted the other two residents out of their bedroom window. Two of the residents sustained what appeared to be moderate injuries.

Two of the family’s vehicles were also lost in the blaze. No other injuries were reported.
Emserv Ambulance Service also responded to the scene, treated the injured, and transported them to the hospital.
