A man accused of locking himself inside a woman’s apartment Thursday after a domestic dispute faces multiple charges.

A release from Hattiesburg Police Department says that Matthew Bethley, 26, is charged with one count of domestic violence-aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon as of Thursday night.

Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, police received a call of a domestic dispute in the 2300 block of West 7th Street. When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman who was involved in the fight, but Bethley had locked himself inside her apartment.

Officers began negotiations with the suspect and contained the situation, and

Bethley surrendered to authorities just before 11 a.m. without incident, and was booked into the Forrest County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
