A Lee County man is under arrest on drug charges after a deputy stopped to check if he had stolen jumper cables.

On Tuesday, a deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence on CR 870 about some stolen property, and among the missing items was a set of jumper cables.

As the deputy was leaving the residence he noticed Gary Kemp walking on Hwy 371 at CR 878. Kemp was carrying a set of jumper cables.

The deputy stopped and asked Kemp where he got the jumper cables. He said he got them from another person. While checking him for weapons, the deputy found two knives in Kemp’s pockets.

The deputy asked Kemp if he had any narcotics on his person. Kemp stated he had methamphetamine and a pipe in his boots. The deputy located a glass pipe and what appeared to be methamphetamine in Kemp’s right boot.

Mr. Kemp was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and transported to the Lee County Jail.
