A woman from Mendenhall was killed Monday as she drove on Mississippi 541 in Simpson County, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol.

A release from MHP Spokesman Trooper Ron Bosarge said around 10 a.m., troopers responded to a wreck on 541 near Chess Warren Road.

A 2007 Pontiac G6, driven by Minnie M. Carter, 65, had been involved in a one-vehicle accident when she left the road and hit an embankment. Carter was taken to a local hospital, but her passenger, Martha Harris, 88, also of Mendenhall, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by MHP.
