An 18-year-old in Warren County is in unknown condition after being found shot Saturday afternoon.
According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, police received a 911 call around noon about a person being shot on Ashwood Drive.
Deputies arrived to find an 18-year-old boy lying on the ground near a vehicle with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the torso. An ambulance took the victim to Merit Health River Region where he was transferred to UMMC in Jackson.
Authorities say there was another 18-year-old in the vehicle, as well as a .40 caliber gun which had been discharged.
Sheriff Pace said it doesn’t appear an altercation was the cause of the shooting, but the shooting does remain under investigation at this time.
“The investigator’s task is to determine what happened leading up to the incident, and determine with certainty who was holding the weapon leading up to the incident,” said Pace.
This is a developing story.
