On April 3, Starkville Police officers arrested 17-year-old Jordan Young (of Starkville) and 18 -year-old Javion Rice (of Crawford) for a shooting that happened Saturday night (April 1).
The shooting took place at the Sprint Mart located at the intersection of Highway 182 and Old Mayhew Road.
An 18-year-old male was shot and is in stable condition. Police said all parties involved in the shooting knew each other prior to this event.
The Starkville Police Department said that in the last two months, officers have seized nine handguns from underage individuals who are not legally allowed to possess them.
“This highlights the importance of parental involvement and support. Be present and engaged in your teenager’s life and activities to help prevent them from making dangerous choices. Our agency is thankful to the parents and family members who have been helpful throughout this investigation.”
The shooting remains under investigation and more arrests are expected.
