Trooper hit by vehicle in Hancock County should make a full recovery

UPDATE:

According to the Dept. Of Public Safety, on Friday, May 24th, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol was conducting a checkpoint on Highway 90 in Hancock County when a vehicle, driven by a teenager, collided with MHP Trooper Nicholas Dean.

Trooper Dean was airlifted to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident is currently under investigation as a possible driving under the influence causing injury charge.

“Trooper Dean is fortunately expected to make a full recovery,” said Commisioner of the Department of Public Safety, Sean Tindell. “Drinking and driving recklessly puts everyone’s life at risk and may result in felony charges in incidents such as this.”

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

A trooper was seriously injured Friday night when he was struck by a vehicle during a traffic checkpoint.

Around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, the Mississippi Highway Patrol was conducting a checkpoint in correlation with the Memorial Day travel period on Highway 90 in Hancock County when a vehicle traveling west struck a trooper.

The trooper was airlifted from the scene with serious injuries to an out-of-state hospital. His condition has not been released.
