A suspect in numerous shopliftings in the metro area is in the Rankin County jail on multiple felony charges as a result of a multi-agency investigation.

On Thursday, Brandon Police Department, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Madison Police Department conducted an investigation into Jeremy Cortez Bennett, a felony shoplifting suspect who was spotted at the Home Depot in Brandon.

As police conducted surveillance on the store, they saw Bennett loading a trash can full of high end power tools into his pickup truck. When officers tried to stop Bennett in the parking lot, he fled with officers in pursuit.

The chase came to an end after Bennett wrecked on I-20 near the stack. He bailed out of the wrecked vehicle and fled on foot before being caught by Rankin County K9.

Bennett is the suspect in numerous department store shopliftings in the metro area. He’s also on house arrest through the Mississippi Department of Corrections after being convicted of multiple auto burglaries. He was also recently arrested for a similar shoplifting incident at Home Depot in Clinton in August.

Bennett faces charges a felony shoplifting and felony fleeing. He’s currently in Rankin County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
