On Saturday, January 27, the Starkville Police Department charged 19-year-old Jackson Hughes (of Greenville) with aggravated assault for an early Saturday morning incident reported at 1:11 a.m.
The charges stem from a fight that began in the area of Coconuts, 601 University Drive, and led to shots being fired in the parking area of 517 University Drive. The victim’s clothing was struck by a bullet during the shooting and no injuries were reported.
The police department said fortunately, no one was physically injured in this incident, but firing a weapon in a public space is reckless and puts the safety of everyone around at risk.
The incident remains under investigation.
