Seven killed in highway fatalities over the weekend, according to MHP

The Mississippi Highway Patrol worked multiple fatal accidents over the weekend, including one that claimed four lives.

On Saturday at approximately 11:50 p.m., MHP responded to a fatal crash on Highway 61 near Valley Park in Issaquena County. A Honda Accord driven by Thomas Williams Jr. of Jackson was headed south on Highway 61 and collided head-on with a northbound Nissan Altima driven by 43-year-old Kamille H. Smith of Cleveland, MS. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Kirstin A. Lucas, 16, a passenger in the Nissan Altima, also died of her injuries, and Thomas K. Williams, 17, a passenger in the Honda Accord, died due to his injuries.

On Saturday around 9 p.m. MHP responded to a fatal crash on Highway 61 in Adams County.
A 2012 Ford Expedition driven by Christopher Towell, 54, of Jonesville, LA, was moving north on Highway 61 when it collided with a 2007 Dodge Journey driven by Virginia Malone, 56, of Centreville, as she entered the northbound lanes attempting to turn onto Kingston Road. Virginia Malone received fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Sunday at approximately 6:02 p.m., MHP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 28 in Copiah County.
A 2001 Dodge Durango, driven by John H. Rankin, 75, of Pattison was headed eastbound on Highway 28 when it collided with a westbound 2000 Ford F-350 Pickup driven by 44-year-old Rickie C. Mann of Columbia. John Rankin received fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported.

On Sunday around 8:22 a.m., MHP responded to a fatal crash on Highway 28 near Barlow Road in Copiah County.
A 2014 Nissan Altima driven by Kiara Shannon, 29, of Hazlehurst was eastbound on Highway 28 when the vehicle left the roadway, overturned, and ejected the driver. Kiara Shannon died as a result of her injuries.

These crashes remain under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
