First responders from the Simpson and Covington County areas who knew Philip Allan said when he died, he was doing what he lived for: Helping people.
Allan, a volunteer firefighter for multiple departments in that area was killed after being hit by a car on Highway 49 in Covington County while attempting to help victims of a car crash.
Covington County Fire Coordinator John Pope said Allan was struck crossing the road as he attempted to help the people involved in the accident.
Pope said the firefighter was in his personal vehicle when he came upon the wreck. He had radioed in to alert dispatch that he was stopping to help. The vehicle had rolled over several times, officials said.
Allan was taken to Forrest General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Pope said.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol is working the incident. This is a developing story.
