A detainee at Raymond Detention Center is dead after an alleged assault by other detainees.

Interim Hinds County Sheriff Marshand Crisler said in a press conference this morning that Michael Richardson was found unresponsive Monday in Pod A of the Hinds County Detention Center at Raymond.

A preliminary investigation determined that Richardson was a victim of an assault by several other detainees and as a result experienced a medical episode.

“Words cannot accurately express our sense of grief and outrage regarding this heinous act that occurred in our facility,” Crisler said.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation of the incident. Crisler said the Sheriff’s Department will be cooperating with the investigation and will prosecute those responsible.

The sheriff’s department will also conduct their own investigation to insure that there was no breach of procedure by any detention officers.
