A tiny puppy, estimated to be about four weeks old, was found abandoned in a cardboard box at the gates of the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) in Jackson this morning.

The discovery was described by shelter workers as a “gut punch,”. Shelter staff said as soon as they see a dog dumped at the gates, which sadly, isn’t a rare occurrence, they rush to see if the puppy is okay and alive.

“What is in it? How long has it been there? Will it be alive? Will it need immediate medical care? Did any others get out, and how will we find them?”

Fortunately, the puppy was found alive but in need of urgent care.

The shelter said the puppy, a little girl, is too young to eat solid food and has been placed on bottle feeding. She will require bottle feeding for about a week, along with help in transitioning to canned food.

ARF is looking for someone willing to foster this sweet girl. The shelter will provide all necessary medical care and food, but they need a foster family to offer the safety and love this little one desperately needs.
