Several agencies are investigating a body found in the area of Old Hwy 49 in Richland.

Rankin County Coroner David Ruth said that a body was recovered from a creek off old Hwy 49. Richland Police Department posted to Facebook that it was found near the Richland Bridge-Levee Road.

Richland Chief Nick McClendon said RPD is assisting the Jackson Police Department, which is leading the investigation.

“There is currently no threat to the citizens of Richland and this appears to have been an isolated incident which occurred outside the city,” McClendon said.

Rankin County EOC was also involved in the recovery. The body will be taken to the ME’s office for autopsy.
