Oxford police make arrest in alleged hit-and-run

An Oxford man was arrested Saturday after an alleged hit-and-run on Jackson Avenue.

Nolan Smith, 19, was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident and has been issued a $25,000 bond after the incident.

According to a release, Oxford Police Department received the call that a pedestrian was hit by a car near Martin Luther King Drive, and that the suspect vehicle had left the scene.

When police got there, they found the victim injured and lying in the middle of Jackson Avenue. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The victim is still receiving ongoing treatment for the injuries he sustained during the incident. Oxford police credited the media for sharing photos of the suspect vehicle, leading to the driver’s apprehension.
